Three Health Advantages Of A Vegetarian Diet

Lots of people comment on the nutritional problems of a badly planned vegetarian diet, but not many emphasize the health benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet.  This article is concerned with the three main nutritional benefits of becoming a vegetarian.

Heart health is a significant benefit of a vegetarian diet that is to some extent due to the vegetarians increased consumption of nuts, for their protein.  Nuts are known to contain omega-3 and omega-6, which are considered to be good fats, that assist in promoting heart health by unclogging the arteries of "bad" cholesterol.  Also many vegetarians frequently replace cows milk, with soymilk, that also has a beneficial effect on heart health, by reducing cholesterol.

Healthy skin is another major benefit of a vegetarian diet.  As well as nuts, vegetarians tend to include far more fruit and vegetables in their diets.  They are a rich source of natural vitamins, including vitamin A, and vitamin E, that are related to healthy skin. Additionally they are rich in fiber that assists in removing toxins from the body, which also assists towards a healthy skin.

Yet another major health benefit, from a vegetarian diet, is that it minimises the risk of free radical damage.  Free radicals are highly unstable molecules, and although they may be of value when the body needs to fight infection, they also attack healthy cells. A vegetarian diet is rich in antioxidants that offset the effect of the free radicals.  Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, are significant antioxidants in a vegetarian diet.

Vitamin C is present in citrus fruit, kiwis, tomatoes, berries, peppers, asparagus, and many other fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin E can be found in walnuts, almonds, brown rice, wheat germ, seed oils, and other foods that should be included in a well-planned vegetarian diet.

It all goes to show that a properly planned vegetarian diet is nutritionally able to promote good health.  In supporting heart health, skin health, and limiting free radical damage there is every possibility that your good health will be complemented by looking radiant, and feeling good.
